3. PUHOI PIONEER MEMORIAL PARK

Working bee on Sunday, and added 2/3 of fencing. Posts for linking stage one and two

due to go in tomorrow. Many thanks to all those who volunteered and helped.

Planting – Sorrel reported that donated plants are coming from the Council and Wenderholm. There will be approximately 1000 plants in total. Planting will go against the fence. Planting day is 8am-12pm Sunday 6th August. Another planting day is to be held at the end of August. All volunteers to help will be most welcome. Please bring a spade, but the plants are small so the work will not be too heavy.

Review of Park Management Plan. Gavin Donaldson had sent an email to the relevant Council Team Leader re how the review process of the Management Plan will take place. The Council now has an Open Space Management framework – a new approach ‘omnibus reserve management plan to cover all parks in one area – for 2017-2018. They have no plan to review the Management Plan in Puhoi Pioneer Memorial Park at this stage, but the Rodney Local Board are likely to be developing an omnibus approach to local park management and endeavor to get community input and public consultation. At this stage the Forum can gather local resident input on what we feel might be an appropriate management plan. Under our lease with the Council we have taken on management of Park therefore can develop some plans but need to run everything past the Rodney Local Board first. Needs to be within parameters of existing park management plan. Puhoi is a special case with our lease and management plan. We can submit ideas and plans to the Council and there is nothing to stop us developing our own plans so long as they fit within the existing management plan and submit these to the Local Board.

Reformation of Park Working Group – The previous group is now defunct. It would be helpful to have a working group to assist with the Park management. Paul Mantonput his name forward, Sorrel O’Leary, Kevin Jones (might be interested as farm lessee), Gavin Donaldson. Please let Dustyn or Paul know if you would be interested in joining this group.

Motion 3

That a Puhoi Pioneer Memorial Park working party be formed and that it reports to the Forum meeting every month as a working group.

Moved: Dustyn O’Leary

Seconded: Mike Swain

Carried

GENERAL BUSINESS

  1. Working Groups Updates

  • Traffic Safety/Walkways

Dustyn has been in touch with Tessa Berger re getting in touch with AT. If Tessa doesn’t hear by the end of the month it is planned to go ahead without AT since there has been so many approaches which have been ignored.

Bus Turnaround

Dustyn has approached AT and given them all the details but so far without any response. Waiting on them for a response. Has been in touch with Beth re using an

existing footbridge now in a paddock which might be useful to use as a pedestrian footbridge in the bus turnaround project. This would need geotech and extensive work, and more public consultation. Plan and costings hopefully to be drawn up by the end of 2017.

Barriers to prevent parking on the footpath

Awaiting permission from AT.

.

  • Civil Defence

Heston has met with other Civil Defence reps in the area, and they have agreed to meet as a group every 6 weeks. Next meeting is at Puhoi Fire Station at the end of August. We now have 3 more people to assist Heston and there could be more from the Waiwera and Ahuroa areas to re-write the handbook. Will eventually get a water-tight container for equipment.

  • Neighbourhood Support

Judith circulated pamphlets ‘Recreation in Rural Areas’ and ‘Fire in Rural Areas by National Rural Fire Authority. Judith also has some ‘Neighbourhood Support’ posters which she will distribute. Neighbourhood Support has drawn a smaller boundary than Civil Defence which is appropriate for the two different groups.

  1. Village Market – ordinary market this coming Sunday. Going upstairs is good.

Running ‘Puhoi’s Got Young Talent’ again at the August market. Judith has the entry

forms.

A very successful Anniversary weekend was held by the PHS including a dance.

Special thanks to the Scouts for their help over the weekend.

The meeting closed at 8.30pm.

NEXT MEETING

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 29 August 2017 at 7.30pm.
