Jacki’s Back to Ease Our Pain

“Puhoi has been my home for over ten years and after working in Auckland during this time I have decided to establish a clinic in the local community. I am a qualified physiotherapist with a post graduate diploma in manipulative physiotherapy. I started my own physiotherapy practice in Titirangi in the early eighties, during which time as well as doing ‘hands on’ physiotherapy I was also the physiotherapist for a national league men’s basketball team.In the last ten years I have also been doing gym based rehabilitation for those clients who need to get physically fit in order to return to work following surgery, accidents or chronic pain.I am passionate about keeping physically fit doing the activities which I enjoy and I’m keen to help other people do the same.”
Jacki Piper Physiotherapist, open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 2.30-5.30pm, phone 0800568621, email jacki@rehabwest.co.nz

Beer But No Skittles

Bookings are now being taken for the Thursday October 17 2013 Puhoi Womens Dinner, the first and last for this sesquicentennial year. Gillian has suggested we pick up the Bohemian anniversary theme, and we are researching a suitable menu based on the central European cuisine from the Czech and German-speaking areas from which the pioneers originated. Gillian has offered to coordinate the evening with its menu, music and cultural elements, including the special Pilsner Lager brewed for our sesquicentennial celebrations. I am still awaiting prices and the numbers which the hotel dining room can accommodate. Reservations will be on a first come, first seated, basis.

Bohemian Tour

In June 2014 I (Judith Williams – Ed) will be joining Barry Brown, who has organised a number of tours to Bohemia in order to
visit the home locations  of the Bohemian settlers. We depart Auckland on 3 June 2014 for a 13 night tour which will
take us to Bohemia, Prague, Berlin, River Rhine, and Hamburg. In Hamburg we see the departure point of the emigrants to New Zealand.
Travel is in a 9 seater mini-bus, which enables us to take our time and explore the Bohemian locations at our leisure.
Of special interest is a visit to an open air museum where we visit farm houses from the 1600s.The cost is
$6495 (plus Taxes and Levies ) which covers your return airfare Auckland-Germany-Auckland. All accommodation on tour, sightseeing
entry fees, transport, and breakfasts. The only other cost while on tour is lunch and evening meal.
The tour is arranged with Air New Zealand  Holidays,P.O. Box 1643, Palmerston Nth.

If you would like a brochure which gives the actual itinerary, and more details please send an Email to selwyn.brown@airnz.co.nz and ask for the Bohemian Tour.

There’s Been A Bustle In Your Hedgerow

Notice any changes to our Central Business District riverbank? About 10 adults and some children got stuck in on Saturday morning and cleared the clumps of Arundo –Spanish Reed – and other pest weeds from below the Sports Club. The plan is to mulch the bare soil and plant with natives when the weather allows. Thanks to organisers Shelley Hackett and Rodney Straka and all who chopped in, not to mention Benjy the goat, who, it was proven by scientific testing, namely placing a branch beneath his nose, could be the weed disposal prototype of the future
