Night time Stop/go on State Highway 1 (SH1), north of Pūhoi.
We’ll be carrying out night works to remove temporary barriers on SH1 north of Pūhoi. Stop/go traffic management will be in place on SH1, between Mahurangi West Road and Pūhoi Road.
The works will be carried out over two nights starting Monday 13 July 2020. Stop/go will be in place between the hours of 9:00pm and 4:00am when traffic volumes are lower to minimise disruption. The work is expected to be completed by Wednesday morning, weather permitting.
NX2 would like to thank drivers for their patience while we complete these works.

Temporary River Closure

In case your’re planning excursions on the Puhoi River:

Dear Neighbour,

Our structures team will be installing large beams across the Pūhoi river soon.  The first beam lift is planned for Friday 12 June and the second beam lift is planned for Monday 15 June, between the hours of 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. These dates are weather dependant and may change.  For safety reasons, the river will be closed off with a temporary visual barrier while this happens.

Pūhoi river will be temporarily closed during the hours of 6:00 am and 6:00 pm for both days.

We ask that people please plan their river excursions for alternative days.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Consultation on Tolling and Speed Limits

Locals may want to add their feed back to the below – without wanting to bias your thoughts, maybe the Auckland Fuel Tax, the Targeted Transport Rate and the existing Toll charges we are liable for may influence your opinion on whether the new motorway should be tolled…

Dear Neighbour,

We’re sending you this email on behalf of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, as you have an interest in the Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway.

Waka Kotahi is working hard to ensure safe, resilient and reliable travel between Pūhoi and Warkworth.

We wanted to let you know about two consultations we are about to begin. We are proposing a toll for the new Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway and to ensure the alternative free route is safe, we are formally consulting on proposed lower speed limits for the current State Highway 1.

We want to know what you think of the tolling and speed limit proposals, and if there is anything we have not considered, before decisions are made.

Tolling proposal

Every new state highway in New Zealand, along with significant upgrades to existing state highways, is assessed to see if they meet the criteria to be tolled. An assessment completed last year confirmed that the Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway is suitable to be a toll road. The motorway is scheduled to open at the end of 2021, but this may be delayed by the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speed limit proposal

It’s also important that we’re ensuring the existing State Highway 1, the alternative free route, is safe. One of the best things we can do to prevent people from dying or being seriously injured on this road is reducing speed limits to make them safe and right for the road. That is why we have undertaken a review of the current speed limits on this road between L Phillips Road (near SheepWorld) and Pūhoi.

Have your say

As your feedback is important to shape what we do, we encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say.

You can provide feedback:

Feedback is open from 15 May to 15 June 2020

Puhoi to Warkworth Works Update

Dear Neighbour,

I hope this email finds you safe and well, we acknowledge that although we are not 100% back to normal yet, level 2 is just around the corner and hopefully things keep heading in a positive direction.

Work is progressing well on the Okahu and Pūhoi viaducts and you can already see them taking shape. There is however more work to complete, there are a few separate scope of works happening over the next few months on or near Pūhoi Road. I’d like to update you on what works we have coming up. These works include:

  • Pūhoi Road night works/road closure – 24-26 May
  • Pūhoi Viaduct – girder and deck panel installation / concrete pours
  • Pūhoi Road – off-ramp earthworks and sealing
  • Pūhoi road (intersection) widening, earthworks and culvert installation
  • Southern connection works, by the tunnels – road layout changes

Most of this work will happen during the day and may not affect some of you at all, although there will be increased truck movement on SH1 and Pūhoi Road intersection.  For everyone’s safety some of the work is required to be done at night when traffic volumes are lower. Some work will require temporary night time road closures and others will require stop/go traffic management. I will advise you before each of these works are scheduled to start, with additional details.

As there will be heavy vehicles and machinery operating in the area, we do ask that you please ensure you follow the construction and temporary traffic management signs. These measures have been put in place to protect the safety of the community and work crews.

We thank you for your understanding while we complete this important work.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Noho ora mai/Stay safe,

Roslyn Prictor

Motorway Construction Postponed for COVID19 Alert Period

Dear Neighbour,

As you know the Prime Minister announced yesterday that the COVID-19 alert level has been raised to Level Three and will become Level Four from 23:59 hours on Wednesday 25 March 2020.

This means we need to stop non-essential services for a period of four weeks. From today crews across the country will be working to close down Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency construction sites, including the Pūhoi to Warkworth construction site.

Our priority at this time is to ensure that while we close down the site, it remains a safe place for you to travel near or alongside. We will keep safe traffic management in place, as well as appropriate environmental controls.

The project shut down includes a cessation in the projects ability to meet face to face with residents and the wider project community for the time being. The projects 0508 number and info email address will continue to operate throughout this period.

For any project related stakeholder and community queries please feel free to contact the team on 0508 7295 4636 or info@nx2group.com.

Thank you for your understanding and respect for others welfare as we navigate these unprecedented challenges.
