Dear Neighbour,

The structures team are preparing to pour concrete onto the recently installed deck panels on the Arawhiti ki Pūhoi viaduct across Pūhoi Road.

Overnight road closure

For safety reasons and to minimise disruption to motorists, the concrete pour onto the deck panels will be carried out at night. You will be able to travel through the area until this time please find a safe place to pull in and talk to the traffic controllers.

NX2: Busy Summer Sundays

With summer just around the corner and bulk earthworks starting to kick off, it is important that the Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth Project utilise our time and resources wisely. This includes making the most of the increased daylight hours and warmer weather. To do this we are planning to work extended hours in some areas of the project and will also be working on Sunday’s, weather permitting.

From Sunday 13 September 2020, we will be carrying out intermittent Sunday works at various locations from Johnstones Hill Tunnel (Southern Connection) and Tapuwae o Kahumatamomoe (Moir Hill Road bridge). The projects working hours on Sundays will typically take place between 7:30am and 6:00pm, and will continue until the end of the 2020/21 summer earthworks season.

Some of you may notice noise and vibration during these works, however the project team will actively monitor this and every effort will be made to minimise disruptions. The Sunday works will be designed to comply with Auckland Council requirements for noise and vibration and our Environmental Team will be monitoring this.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Night time road closure: Hibiscus Coast Highway on-ramp northbound

The northbound on-ramp will be closed at night from 09.00 pm – 05.00 am from Monday 24 August 2020 to Thursday 03 September 2020. The Hibiscus Coast Highway southbound off-ramp will have stop-go traffic management in place to allow traffic to pass in both directions. There will be no closures in place on Friday and Saturday nights. Dates are weather dependent A reduced speed limit of 30km/h will be in place while works are happening. Puhoi Road Closure Timing

Just circulating this reponse from Rosalyn Prictor at NX2 following communicating some concerns we expressed that the road was being shutoff to people trying to get back into the village before the advertised time:

Dear Neighbours,

We are progressing well with deck panel installation across Pūhoi Road and thank everyone for their continued patience.

I have received a number of concerns that the road closure is shutting early and that people have been turned around /not let through before the 9.30pm cut off time. I have talked to various people here at management level and have been assured that this will not happen.

I would like to mention that the signs and road cones are set up early and the road may look fully closed before the 9.30pm cut off time.  Please pull into the slip lane and talk to our friendly traffic management guys/gals and tell them you live in Pūhoi and would like to get through. If there are any issues with this at the time, please call me on 0508 7295 4636 immediately and I will deal with that conversation for you, while you wait.

The road closure time is set at 9.30pm, this is a very firm closure time and traffic will not be allowed to pass after this 9.30pm. This is to enable us to still have enough time to do the required work.

If you have further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Consultation on Tolling and Speed Limits

Locals may want to add their feed back to the below – without wanting to bias your thoughts, maybe the Auckland Fuel Tax, the Targeted Transport Rate and the existing Toll charges we are liable for may influence your opinion on whether the new motorway should be tolled…

Dear Neighbour,

We’re sending you this email on behalf of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, as you have an interest in the Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway.

Waka Kotahi is working hard to ensure safe, resilient and reliable travel between Pūhoi and Warkworth.

We wanted to let you know about two consultations we are about to begin. We are proposing a toll for the new Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway and to ensure the alternative free route is safe, we are formally consulting on proposed lower speed limits for the current State Highway 1.

We want to know what you think of the tolling and speed limit proposals, and if there is anything we have not considered, before decisions are made.

Tolling proposal

Every new state highway in New Zealand, along with significant upgrades to existing state highways, is assessed to see if they meet the criteria to be tolled. An assessment completed last year confirmed that the Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway is suitable to be a toll road. The motorway is scheduled to open at the end of 2021, but this may be delayed by the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speed limit proposal

It’s also important that we’re ensuring the existing State Highway 1, the alternative free route, is safe. One of the best things we can do to prevent people from dying or being seriously injured on this road is reducing speed limits to make them safe and right for the road. That is why we have undertaken a review of the current speed limits on this road between L Phillips Road (near SheepWorld) and Pūhoi.

Have your say

As your feedback is important to shape what we do, we encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say.

You can provide feedback:

Feedback is open from 15 May to 15 June 2020
