School Survey

As part of reviewing planning for the next 10 years of education at Ahuroa School, the board is looking at what Year 7 and Year 8 education at Ahuroa should look like.

We would love to hear from as many people in the community as possible. Maybe you have pre-schoolers (or plans for some!) that could be attending Ahuroa by 2026, or maybe you had kids at the school in the past – maybe you attended the school in the past! Or maybe you just have something valuable to say.

We have a survey that we would love you to fill out – unless you have a lot to say, it should only take a couple of minutes.

If you have any troubles or questions, please let me know: Tony Meyer,

Ag Day at Ahuroa School

This year we are opening our annual Ag Day to all our community families.  As well as being great fun, participation provides children with a unique and valuable opportunity to learn about animal husbandry, agricultural and horticultural practice in NZ, as well as growing food in our own gardens.  We appreciate not all children have the opportunity to be involved within their own schools, which is why we are opening our 2016 Ag Day to all our local families.

Please find more information below.  If your family would like to make the most of this opportunity please let us know so we can keep you updated.

Market Stalls

We will once agin be hosting market stalls – fresh produce, handmade crafts, preserves etc.  If you would like to book a stall please let us know.  All profits remain with stall holders. There is a small cover charge of $20 per table.

Come along!

Besides many outside an inside presentations, there will be loads of things to see and do – stalls, bake sales, BBQ, hot and cold drinks, farmers competitions, country games.  Mark this date in your calendars now!

If you need more convincing here’s just a taste of last years Ag Day.

My warmest regards, Michelle

We have a couple of vacancies starting next term that you may also have a special someone in mind for. We have a teacher aide position, are still looking for a bus driver, and then we need someone to do the minutes for our BOT meetings. This position could be 3 people or 1 person. Please contact me on if you would like more information.

School House For Rent

Early in July our school house will be available to rent. If you know of someone – preferably with school aged kids – that would be perfect for our little house, please can you let them know. The rent is very reasonable – $350 per week, with the added bonus of swimming pool, playground and all seasons turf to play on. Quite apart from all of that, it lays nestled in the heart of our community.

A New Era

[via Michelle Nell, Principal]

After much anticipation we have a new Board of Trustees. Those people that attended our fantastic Cheese and Wine evening on the 26th of May will attest to the incredibly high calibre of nominee that we had for this round of Board of Trustees Elections. I would certainly not have been able to pick 5 out of the 9 and not feel that I might still be missing out on someone.

A big thanks to each and every person that stood for the elections, and also a big thank you to those that voted. In comparison to many school we had a good return rate for the elections and can feel confident that we have placed the stewardship of our school in good, capable hands.

The first meeting of the new Board of Trustees will be on Wednesday 6th July, at 7pm. Any community member is welcome to attend the meeting.

Our new Board of Trustees members are:

  • Nicky Berger
  • Eli DeMeulemeester
  • Phil Hancock
  • Tony Meyer
  • Tracey Paddison
  • Jacques Uys

Over the coming months the Board will be communication with our community as we relook at our Vision, Strategic Direction and Charter. You input into this process will be invaluable, so please do look out for the opportunities that they will present.

Finally, Some Fun for the Grandparents!

On Friday 8th of July we are hosting a Grandparents Day. We would like to extend a warm invite to any Grandparents that live in the Puhoi Community to come and visit us on the day – they don’t need to be a grandparent of one of our students! We are planning on having a fun filled day reminiscing on “Old School Days”, playing games from era’s past and will end the day with our students cooking and serving a 3 course lunch to our visiting grandparents.
